The 1st Trailer for Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday dropped on Monday, July 20, 2026, giving viewers their very 1st looks at Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom!
The trailer opens with a voice over from Doctor Doom explaining the gravity of the situation that are heroes will be facing. We are in The X-Men’s Universe (Earth-10005), and we see Charles Xavier (portrayed by Patrick Stewart) seated in his wheelchair and witnessing some sort of huge blast outside the window. Doom’s voice over ends with him speaking about an “unthinkable decision.” I believe Doom is speaking of Incursions, which is the colliding of two Multiversal Universes that leads to either the destruction of one, or the destruction of both Universes. I’m guessing the explosion that Professor X witnesses is an actual Incursion.
We are then transported to Earth-616 (once known as the Sacred Timeline). Chris Hemsworth’s Thor gives the next voice over, a word for word reciting of the Thor Will Return in Avengers: Doomsday trailer which basically states that stronger people have lost to lesser enemies than the threat they now face. I liked this better in the Thor Will Return trailer as a solemn prayer to the late Odin, but that’s just a nitpick. The bigger story is seeing The Fantastic Four walk into Avengers Tower where Yelena Belova’s New Avengers are already sharing the room with Sam Wilson’s Avengers (Sam, Scott Lang, and Thor). A glimpse at Namor (Tenoch Huerta) and Shuri (Leticia Wright) and M’Baku (Winston Duke) follows and we see Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bach) meeting M’Maku again but with a fuller picture than we got in the The Wakandans and The Fantastic Four Will Return in Avengers: Doomsday trailer.
Next, we see the X-Mansion explode from the inside and we get a peak at Cyclops (portrayed by James Marsden) inside the mansion. We see Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) fight Gambit (Channing Tatum) and then Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova against Rebecca Romign’s Mystique during which Mystique transforms into Yelena. We also see Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart sitting with Magneto (Ian McKellen), which we saw in the The X-Men Will Return in Avengers: Doomsday trailer. From there, we see Johnny Storm embracing his sister Sue. We then get a sick shot of Gambit, a shot of Susan using her powers, and a cool shot of Namor.
I should also note that we did get a brief look at Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, seemingly standing by a window in Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter’s home.
Up next is what Marvel fans have been waiting for: Doctor Doom in all his glory, squaring off against Thor! I think Doom looked and sounded great in this trailer. The trailer ends with Thor mingling with Steve Rogers, who calls Mjolnir to his hand. The trailer ends with an ominous Avengers theme.
I think some people out there will hate on this trailer due to the fact that there weren’t any real surprises. I think it accomplished its mission though, in terms of letting is here and Robert Downy Jr’s Doctor Doom
