Hot Toys Black Widow (Infinity War) Review

Black Widow was my fifth Hot Toys figure of 2019, and the eleventh Hot Toys figure that I added to my collection. She was a wedding anniversary gift from my wonderful wife in the Fall of 2019. Natasha Romanoff is one of my Top-10 favorite MCU characters. I have enjoyed Scarlett Johansson’s performance in every MCU movie that she has portrayed Natasha in.

I think Natasha was a very well-written and interesting hero within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She was a character with a past of which she was not proud, and she was in a constant campaign to try and do enough good to eradicate all of the bad. She was a driven and inspirational character that knew the value of family and friendship and loyalty and that longed to someday die with honor and to be remembered as a hero.

I really enjoyed Natasha Romanoff’s character arc in Avengers: Infinity War. After trying to genuinely do what was right in Captain America: Civil War, Natasha settled into a life on the run alongside her friends Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson, with the triad serving as a band of “Secret Avengers.” It’s a truly special moment in Infinity War when Natasha, Cap, and The Falcon arrive to assist Wanda Maximoff and The VISION against the Children of Thanos, and I thought Natasha had some great combat moments when faced-off against Proxima Midnight. When the Battle of Wakanda rolled around, Natasha continued to kick ass, aligning with Wanda and Okoye for a very memorable (and gross) sequence.

Having been on the run, Natasha changed her look up significantly during the two years between Civil War and Infinity War, and it is that look that this figure captures. She cut her traditionally red hair short and dyed it blonde and also took to wearing her sister Yelena’s vest. At the time I asked for this figure, I wanted it because it was a very unique look for Natasha, and because I thought it was the best head sculpt that Hot Toys had ever done in terms of capturing the likeness of Scarlett Johansson.

Black Widow comes in a really nice box with a drawing of the figure on the front. Inside, she has rooted hair and comes with a standard stand, extra hands, and some weapons. She is a simple, yet effective figure with a great shelf presence and plenty of articulation.

I know every Hot Toys collector has their own opinions concerning rooted hair. Having now owned a couple of figures with rooted hair myself, I have to say that I prefer the sculpted hair on most figures. I truly felt at the time that I received this, that this was the best Black Widow figure on the market, as the look of Natasha here relates to both Infinity War and Natasha’s affection for her sister Yelena, and that made it a must-own for me.
