As was the case with Iron Man, Captain America, and Loki figures before her, I already owned a Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow Hot Toys figure (from Avengers: Infinity War), but from the moment that it was released, I felt like this was the quintessential Black Widow figure! My Iron Man, Cap, and Loki Hot Toys updates all came from Avengers: Endgame, and while Natasha had a defining moment and a fantastic looking figure from that film as well, the figure that I felt was the most definitive came from her own (long overdue) solo film that predated Infinity War and Endgame within the MCU continuity but came out a couple of years after Endgame.
From the moment I saw the first trailer for Black Widow with Natasha in that white snowsuit, I thought it was an amazing look for the character and every time that I look at this figure on y shelf, I’m reminded of not only that film – which I very much enjoyed – but the Pandemic and the wait for that movie to be released and how exciting it was after so many dark and hopeless days to finally watch an MCU movie again with my family; the first feature length motion picture released by Marvel Studios in almost 2-years!! It was a triumphant experience!
Scarlett Johansson defined the Black Widow character for 12-years, dating back to her MCU introduction in Iron Man 2 and she had SO many amazing moments in the role, with her solo film serving as sort of a cherry on the top of the cake that was her MCU body of work. Her return to her rots and her chemistry with Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova were the highlights of the movie, and seeing Natasha in snowy Russia fighting bad guys alongside her would-be family was a fantastic sendoff for a character we’d already seen die two years earlier in Endgame.
Perfect is the best word that i can use to describe this Black Widow figure. The face sculpt is incredible. The sculpted hair is awesome in its style, length, and color, and the bright white suit really pops on the shelf! The articulation is great, and the body sculpt is the best I’ve seen on a Balck Widow figure; she is leaner and shorter than the Infinity War version but looks more proportionately accurate when standing next to other MCU figures, such as Captain America and Bucky.
Like the film before it, this figure was a long wait for me. I received her as a wedding anniversary gift in the Fall of 2023, more than two-years since the Black Widow film was released, but it was well worth the wait and is an incredible addition to my ever-growing Hot Toys collection.
