Hot Toys Spider-Man (Iron Spider) Review

Spider-Man was my 14th MCU Hot Toys figure and I absolutely adore this figure! This is piece-for-piece one of Hot Toys’ finest releases and I love everything about it!

I was a big fan of the Civil War comic book story in the Marvel Comics and one of my favorite parts of that story was Spider-Man’s arc in it as he registers as a superhero and announces his identity as Peter Parker to the world only for that to ultimately destroy his life. Aside from the narrative, Civil War introduced readers to the Iron Spider suit; a red-and-gold armored suit designed by Tony Stark, complete with three spider-like legs. It looked really cool on the pages of the comics, and from the moment Tom Holland’s Spider-Man joined the MCU and was aligned with Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark, I began hoping we’d see Tony make Peter an Iron Spider suit in the MCU.

I didn’t have to wait long, as the suit was teased in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and then formally introduced in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. It was glorious!

For the MCU, the Iron Spider suit was red, gold, and blue, complete with four golden retractable legs. The suit also had glowing eyes, and in making this figure, Hot Toys perfectly captured every single detail from the films. It was only a matter of time before I was going to get around to picking up a Spider-Man Hot Toys figure, because I love the character, but the Iron Spider was the one that I most wanted. I mean, Peter has had some great looks in the MCU, but this is my favorite and I fell in love with it even more when I got to take this figure of the box and hold it in my hands!

Spider-Man’s articulation is crazy good. The material his suit is made of allows for some really dynamic poses and all four of his arms are articulated as well. This figure just looks cool! This was the first Hot Toys figure I owned that had a magnetic head-swap feature and I love this detail! Switching from the Spider-Man sculpt to the sculpt of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is easy and practical. Spider-Man also comes with lots of extra hands and lots of different sizes of webbing. The eyes do light-up and the spider-like legs do come off. All of the golden pieces really pop and give the figure a shine, which it should have, being metallic.

The Iron Spider has gone on to be the look most associated with Spider-Man in the MCU, as he’s worn it in numerous films, including Spider-Man: No Way Home where we actually got to see Peter in the Iron Spider suit facing off against Doctor Octopus! That was SO epic and amazing!

I received the Hot Toys Iron Spider as a gift from my wife and kids for my birthday in 2020, and it’s one of my most favorites!
