Thanos was my fourth Hot Toys figure of 2019, and my landmark 10th Hot Toys figure overall. When I started collecting Hot Toys in 2017, I remember trying to narrow down the five figures that I wanted most with hopes of owning them someday, and here I was, just over two-years later, owning my tenth figure! My Mom passed away over the Summer of 2019, and my wonderful wife gave me this figure as an early gift to lift my spirits a bit during the mourning process (pretty sure I was supposed to get this for our wedding anniversary), and receiving this Thanos figure certainly caused me to smile!
This is the Hot Toys Thanos from Avengers: Infinity War and this is the Thanos figure that I most wanted. The version of Thanos that won me over in the MCU was the one we saw in Avengers: Infinity War; the Thanos that could never know peace until his mission to Balance the Universe was complete; the Thanos that was cursed with knowledge.
I think Thanos is a really cool comic book character and I adored Jim Starlin’s Infinity Gauntlet story immensely, but it was Avengers: Infinity War and Josh Brolin’s remarkable performance as Thanos that mostly endeared me to the character. This was a Thanos that was deeply rooted in personal conviction. He sincerely believed that he was right, and this allowed him to boast an aura of nobility. Thanos was the hero of his own story, and he truly believed that. He was, if nothing else, one of the most unique comic book movie characters of all-time and he was such an interesting character, Avengers: Infinity War was able to revolve around Thanos and make Thanos the heart of its story. Avengers: Infinity War was Thanos’ movie, and it was Thanos’ story, and my affection for that specific film is why I wanted this specific version of Thanos.
Thanos comes in a tall box with gold and purple splashes and a drawing of the figure. The entire box is decorated really nicely with Infinity Gauntlet’s all over it in different places. Opening the box, Thanos is massive! Thanos stands 16-inches, and he is thick and heavy! He’s wearing his sleeveless blue and gold shirt from Infinity War with gray pants and blue and gold boots. Thanos comes with an extra head sculpt (angry face), extra hands, and an extra arm with an alternate Infinity Gauntlet with articulated fingers that can bend to Snap.
Thanos’ head sculpt is uncanny! The likeness of Josh Brolin is captured perfectly, and I love the sly, confidant smirk that serves as the expression on his face. This is the way I primarily display my Thanos, along with the clinched-fist Gauntlet that adds to the figure’s menace. And yes, the Infinity Gauntlet does light-up!
Thanos’ stand is large and hefty with an Avengers: Infinity War logo and an Infinity Gauntlet painted on it. It’s probably my favorite stand in my collection.
Thanos is an eye-catching piece that darn near rivals The Hulk in terms of scale, quality, and execution. Of the ten Hot Toys figures that I owned up to this point, this Thanos was second only to The Hulk in terms of sheer awesomeness. Though there are many characters that I like more than Thanos, there aren’t many Hot Toys that compare to the excellence of this Thanos figure, and as one of the biggest Loki fans on the planet, even I will concede that Thanos is the best villain in MCU History. I’m super happy to have him as part of my collection.
