Hot Toys Rocket (GOTG) Review

Rocket was my third Hot Toys figure of 2019, and ninth Hot Toys figure overall. I received Rocket from my wonderful wife and children for Father’s Day, concluding an amazing vacation that stands as one of our best trips to Universal Studios ever, where my daughter at long last finally got to ride The Incredible Hulk Coaster.

Rocket is amongst my Top-5 favorite MCU characters, behind only Loki, The Scarlet Witch, Captain America, and The Winter Soldier. Rocket is my favorite member of The Guardians of the Galaxy and one of my favorite MCU characters to quote. I’ve loved raccoons dating back to my childhood; I just think they are really cool looking animals! Rocket is my favorite raccoon of all though, and I will always fondly remember the big risk that Marvel Studios took in bringing a gun-toting, upright-walking, talking raccoon with an attitude to film, transforming a rather obscure comic book character into a merchandise-moving household name!

Rocket is a really great character. He is funny, he is cynical, and sometimes he is even mean, but he is always entertaining, and, in the end, he always manages to bring himself to take the road less traveled and the path most noble. Rocket likes to carry himself as if everyone is beneath him, but this is merely a mask, as Rocket is an extremely loyal and loving friend to those who give him a chance. I love Rocket’s jokes, his courage, and even his obsession with prosthetics! What I love most however is his confidence and self-worth. He is what he is and there ain’t no thing like him except him!

The Hot Toys Rocket figure that I added to my collection on Father’s Day is from the first Guardians of the Galaxy film. When I think about Rocket, I always think about this movie first and picture Rocket in his orange outfit. I also love Rocket’s massive gun that came with this figure, and the expression on his face here. That smile just screams attitude!

As you might imagine, Rocket is one of the smallest pieces in my collection. He stands just over six-inches tall, which makes him look proportionately appropriate when stood alongside other Hot Toys figures. Rocket’s whiskers are rooted. His body is not made of real hair, but the paint job is really well done, and it does look like animal fur. The face sculpt is outstanding and Rocket’s little hands and feet are crafted well. He is a rather simple figure overall, and not the kind of eye-catching piece that The Hulk is, but given my immense love for this character, I just had to add a Rocket to my collection, and despite his small stature, he is one of my favorite parts of it.
