Hot Toys Captain America (Civil War) Review

Captain America is my favorite superhero in all of comics. He’s not my favorite character, as I prefer Loki and Wanda Maximoff over him, but they are complex and sometimes villainous characters so again, Cap is my favorite Marvel Hero. Steve Rogers specifically, is just such a noble, brave, and driven character with zero tolerance for evil and a very strict moral code. He is not a character that I relate to in the ways that I relate to a character like Loki, who I see a lot of myself in; he is instead the type of character that I want to be like. Steve Rogers inspires me and it’s his patriotism, his courage, and his consistent sacrifice that endear me most to him, and I don’t think there was a single film that Marvel Studios had featured Steve Rogers in up to 2018, that got Cap as right as Captain America: Civil War did, so as my Hot Toys collection continued to grow, it was the Hot Toys Captain America from Captain America: Civil War that I targeted in 2018. I received Captain America for my birthday in 2018, a gift from my wonderful wife and children. Cap was my fourth Hot Toys figure. The box that Cap came in was fashioned after the style of the Civil War comics series, which I really appreciated, as that is one of my all-time favorite Marvel Comics Event Series. The box features Steve Rogers with Sam Wilson (as The Falcon) soaring in the background.

Out of the box, Captain America is a brilliant figure. In terms of look and style, there is nothing not to like about this figure, but swapping the head out is tricky, as is changing out his hands, which makes posing Cap wielding his shield a bit frustrating. I generally pose my figure with the shield on his back, as it gives Cap a bulkier look and eliminates a lot of those struggles.

Captain America’s uniform is the primary reason that I wanted this version of Captain America in my Hot Toys collection. Steve’s suit looked great in The First Avenger, and I really loved his stealth suit from The Winter Soldier, but his Civil War suit just screams Captain America to me, combining a nice balance of reds, whites, and blues with a perfect body and helmet sculpt. There is no doubting that that is Chris Evans behind the mask / helmet, and the articulation is of exceptional quality, given the fact that this is a fully clothed character with straps and belts and boots and whatnot.

Captain America comes with a diecast shield, an alternate mask-less head sculpt, several extra hands, and a couple of extra facial expressions that can be interchanged via a magnet underneath his nose and chin area. Despite some of his flaws, at the time that I got this Captain America figure, he was my favorite piece of my collection.
