Thor is amongst my Top-10 favorite characters in all of comics and I love the entire Asgardian pantheon! This was the third Hot Toys figure that I ever owned. I received Thor as a gift from my family for Christmas in 2017. Loki was my first Hot Toy, and I love the dynamic between the adopted brothers in the movies as well as the comics, so a Hot Toys Thor was an ideal next move in my collecting. With that decided, I had to choose which Hot Toys Thor that I wanted. Thor figures from both The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron were available, but a few weeks before the Christmas of 2017, me, my wife, and my son ventured out to the theater and saw Thor: Ragnarok and after viewing that film, I knew that this “Roadworn Thor” was the perfect Thor figure for me!
The release of this figure was quite unique in the realm of Hot Toys collecting. Traditionally, a movie (or show) rolls out, and Hot Toys announces select figures from that movie, urging customers to make a preorder. It’s then a waiting game that typically spans two-years or more before the figure is in the customer’s hands (in the United States anyway). This Thor figure was released mere weeks after the release of Thor: Ragnarok though, so it was really cool to see that awesome film and then be able to showcase my appreciation for it in such a short amount of time!
The box art for this figure really pops with all kinds of bright and vivid colors in the spirit of Sakaar. The Thor: Ragnarok logo is at the bottom of the front of the box with touches of lightning and an image of the figure itself. Out of the box, this figure was everything I’d ever wanted in a Thor figure! There were two things that made this figure a must-have for me. The first was the fact that Thor had his hair cut off in Thor: Ragnarok. If I was going to own one Thor Hot Toys figure, I needed him to have long hair, as that is just the look that I associate with the character in both the comics and the films. The second thing was the opening scene from Thor: Ragnarok itself! Thor fighting Fire Demons and Fire Dragons in the middle of Muspelheim to the tune of Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song was the coolest Thor scene I’d ever witnessed up to that point and this Roadworn Thor figure encapsulated that very scene!
Thor boasts a dark clothing scheme comprised of rich brown’s and black’s which cause his tattered dark red cape to stand out. This Thor looks dirty and gritty; he has been through some stuff, and his attire reflects that. Roadworn Thor comes with some nice accessories including the Skull of Surtur, complete with a chain so that the skull can be wrapped around Thor’s back, which is how I keep him posed. Roadworn Thor also comes with some extra hands and two different versions of Mjolnir: one that lights up to create a cool lightning effect and another that is diecast.
Thor’s head sculpt is remarkably well done! There is no doubting that that’s supposed to be Chris Hemsworth. His expression is serious; as if he’s ready for a fight, and his long, dark sculpted hair fits the face and shoulder areas of the figure perfectly. This figure just screams “God of Thunder!” and it remains one of my most cherished pieces from my collection to this day.
