Hot Toys Wanda Maximoff (Avengers: AOU) Review

Wanda Maximoff is my second favorite character in all of comics and I was so excited when she made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut during the mid-credits scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. From there, she was a featured part in Avengers: Age of Ultron; first as an antagonist and then as a heroic member of The Avengers! Wanda was an easy choice for me in requesting my next Hot Toys figure after receiving Loki for Father’s Day in 2017, and four months later, she joined the God of Mischief on my shelf as a wedding anniversary gift from my wonderful wife! The version of Wanda I hoped for and received was the Wanda from Avengers: Age of Ultron, which like Thor: The Dark World, was a film that I enjoyed far more than most other people. I even liked it more than the incredible first Avengers film!

Wanda’s box art is among my most favorite from Hot Toys to this day and I keep it displayed on a shelf. The box features an image of Elizabeth Olsen dressed as Wanda amidst red and pink hues behind a shiny Avengers “A” with the Avengers: Age of Ultron logo at the forefront.

Out of the box, Wanda looks like she stepped right out of the middle of the Battle of Sokovia! Wanda comes with several extra hands (most of which are painted at the tips of her fingers with a really neat translucent sort of pink to reflect the magical energy coming out of her). She also comes with two pink effects pieces to represent manifestations of her Chaos Magic, as well as the disembodied mechanical heart of ULTRON, which she ripped out of ULTRON after the robotic entity gunned-down her beloved twin brother Pietro in the film.

Wanda is clothed in a short black dress with black leggings that come up to her knees. She also has black arm covers and jewelry around her neck and adorning her hands. She is furthermore wearing dark boots and a red leather jacket that is pulled up to her elbows and unzipped. Wanda’s long brown hair is rooted, hanging down to the middle of her back. The likeness to Elizabeth Olsen is there at certain angles, and sort of not in others, but with the display stand and the outfit, it is clear who she is supposed to be.

This figure was a true joy to own at the time that I got her, and though she looks and feels quite outdated these days, she will always remain a cherished piece of my collection.
